Meet Your Farmer: Laura Ann’s Jams
Eat. Drink. Jam.
Laura Ann Masura has taken a unique path to get where she is today. Her career began as a punk rocker drummer, but when her band broke up, she discovered a different kind of jam-session by reacquainting herself with the preserving skills she was taught by her grandmother.
Jam-making became a weekly flavor experiment/obsession that filled her cabinets, so she began selling the jams to her co-workers & friends. Her restaurant boss and numerous musician and foodie friends fell in love with her creative flavor combinations and avidly encouraged her to pursue her jam-making full-time.
Self-Preservation
A serious motorcycle accident sidelined Masura in 2009. It was a long road to recovery, and there were many times Laura second-guessed her decision to create jams as her career. But, as she recuperated from surgery she found that making jam was creatively therapeutic, and with the help of her friends and family, she was able to keep her clients.
Not only that, word got around about her story, and prominent local blogs began spreading the word about her delicious jams. Los Angeles Magazine, Los Angeles Times and LA Weekly all lauded her fruity creations, and she was even the subject of an Oprah Winfrey Network Original Short (“Jam Lady”).
Preserves with an Edge
Wanting to always push herself, Laura used her mixologist and catering skills and started to make original cocktails with her jams, and as expected were are huge hit with food lovers. Laura Masura takes pride in her jams and it is not wonder the flavors and combinations have been a hit with friends, family and any lover of delicious jams. We even created our own Strawberry Kiss Cocktail – That’s My Jam! recipe using her Laura Ann’s Strawberry Vanilla Bean Jam.
We are excited to offer two new fall-inspired preserves from Laura Ann to our members: Maple Pumpkin Butter and Granny Superstar Apple Butter. Laura says, “Pumpkin butter is something I have been making since I was a little girl; just the smell of it reminds me of my grandmother and autumn in Chicago. You will find yourself putting this on EVERYTHING! I use it in my oatmeal, in my martinis and also as a mind-blowing cheesecake topper.” You can also find some of her other wonderful flavors that can easily be add to your farm box deliveries.
