June Light Brings Lots Of Veggies
Farm News
Today marks our first lettuce harvest of 2019 and the morning was perfectly cool and overcast. We harvested 50 beautiful delicious cases of red, green and romaine leaf and will now be harvesting lettuce through the summer and fall. Lettuce is one of my favorite vegetables, so subtle and clean in flavor; we rarely dress it but will add sliver slices of radishes and cucumbers.
The days are jam packed now with very little time to sit still. The increased daylight has given us a heightened sense of energy and purpose as we will soon be spending most of the days harvesting. Andrew has been planting late into the nights to accomplish many beds of carrots. Tractor work is still very vital as we now settle into weeding beds and cultivating with the basket weeder attachment on our illustrious Alice G finesse tractor.
The entire crew of Stewardship Partners came out for a Feast on the Farm walk as we prepare for this wonderful farm dinner on July 19th to benefit salmon safe farming and restoration projects in the Snoqualmie watershed. Although tickets are sold out, I believe they have a few left in contest mode on their website. We are thrilled to host this 10th anniversary event. Enjoy the mid-June light and the many vegetables now coming available.
