Happy 4th! Happy Summer!
Farm News
Happy July 4th and happy summer to all of our wonderful Full Circle members!
As families gather over the next week and enjoy picnics and feasts in the warm summer air, laughing and hopefully swimming in lakes, rivers and pools, we hope that everyone has a chance to rest, relax and rejuvenate.
On the farm, we are excited to have the canvassing team out for a lunch, giving them a full summer farm experience. The blueberries are still green, but in the next two weeks, we should see beautiful shades of blue. We have enjoyed the cooler mornings for harvest, allowing the veggies plenty of hydration with intermittent rain throughout June. Our days are super long as we start at 5am and we often go well into the evening.
Our big push right now is to get all the plants in the ground from our greenhouses. Our last successions will be planted in the next two weeks; as quick as they went into production in March, we have already arrived in July to shut them down. The cooler, wetter days have given rise to different problems this month, as we have had to keep many of the plants in the greenhouse aerating and protected from fungus or rot.
On our Carnation farm property, we have a smaller problem with wire worms eating some of the veggies, so we have systematically put down carrots and potatoes in-between plantings to lure them to eat these trap veggies and not our valuable new crops.
It is a dance and always at an unpredictable rhythm. Happy 4th of July rhythms to all of you! Whether it is in your garden, at your table or on travels, we wish you a safe and happy holiday.
