Gathering
Farm News
The sun has finally arrived in warm 70-degree days, and we are thrilled to be working very early in the morning until very late in the evening. We are tilling and preparing the beds and transplanting our first succession of veggies. This is a phenomenal feeling that is a high point in our season.
We are at the front end of the season with very few Mother Nature disappointments. We are gathering as a work force that will accomplish an incredible amount of growing, tending, harvesting and packaging up of fresh, local, organic produce for our community.
We are gathering with school kids on tours, and members have started gathering in our planning for larger events on the farm throughout the summer. We know that soon we will be able to gather around the table, but for now as a small group of dedicated farmers, we gather in the fields and greenhouses from dawn to dusk.
We are tending the earth while growing healthy, sustainable food for all to share in the bounty. The smells and lighting are like no other at this time of year. They have a very fresh and robust feel not yet beaten down by heat and sun and no longer water-logged.
We have just finished a seeding of cucumbers and will continue in our many successions of brassicas, lettuce, fennel and flowers. As our backs get stronger and our hands dirtier with the rich soil, we gather every day in great joy and appreciation for our ability to farm organically. Many thanks to the members who joined us on the farm in April − we loved harvesting kale with you amongst the amazing yellow flowers.
