Fog, Frost And Snow Geese
Farm News
We have entered into November with seasonal fog, our first flood and our first frost. The Snow Geese have already landed deep in the fields where water sits on fallow ground, and we are putting our new irrigation project to the test. Will water recede faster? So far, it looks that way. After our first deluge of rain and the rivers swelled to capacity, our usual low spots filled with water and the last week of sunshine has shown that they indeed are draining quicker. As the winter rains and floods continue, we will be monitoring and eager to measure progress.
Many thanks to Ziggy, Andrew and Cameron for successfully constructing a new tarp over the processing station. Their acrobatic strength and constructive genius made the job easier than expected. It is a large military-style tarp that extends between our 115-year-old barn and the packing station to help in receiving veggies throughout the season. It is a crucial element as it significantly cuts back the heat in the summer sun and gives immense cover from rain, wind and cold in winter. Just the few days that we had it removed the space felt very naked indeed.
As we make our way toward, Thanksgiving we are spending a great deal of time bunching in the kale, lots of beautiful, deliciously rich in vitamins, Lacinato , Green and Red kale. Our hands are cold and wet each morning with the heavy dew and rain that hangs on these intensely colorful veggies. Their flavor is exquisite at this time of the year, earthy and sweet. My teeth are green with raw kale, and my kids love to yell “get the green stuff out of your teeth mom. ”Absolutely not! Bring it all on as we enter into the darker colder days. Let’s try and feed our bodies with as much green as possible!

I am so happy to have found you! We are a family of 8 eating organic and high raw and eating fresh is something that is of great importance to us. It was a pleasure to meet at the Chocolate Festival this past weekend and our two boxes of beautiful produce arrived this morning and the kids can't wait to dive in. Several apples have already been consumed and they are divine! Love your blog too. The kids can't wait for a farm tour. Thank you Thank you!
